The Trauma of Hate: Making Marginalized Lives Matter

  • OHSU via Zoom Portland, Oregon USA (map)

Presentation for the OSHU Social Work Grand Rounds

2020 saw a dramatic uptick in hate crimes, first linked to the COVID-19 pandemic and then to the Black Lives Matter protests. The impact of the these small acts of terrorism reverberates through communities and touch on deep historic pains. This one-hour presentation explores the research on hate crimes and bias incidents, and their connections to trauma. Part of this discussion explores the intersections of cultural shifts and the rise of racist and nationalist groups, like the Proud Boys. More importantly, this presentation addresses the need for healing in communities that have been marginalized by hate. (Private event)
